In May of this year, the new version of the national standard for faucets was officially released and will be formally implemented from next month. The new national standard specifies the limit for lead precipitation.

Yesterday, the Quality Supervision Bureau of Jiangsu Province conducted spot checks and risk monitoring on taps in the Jiangsu market and production areas in accordance with the current national standards and the new national standards. As a result, 20% of the lead precipitation of copper alloy taps exceeded the limit of the new national standard.

In the past, there was no mandatory limit on the amount of pollutants precipitated in faucets. The new national standard will draw on the detection methods and limit standards of the United States. Ding Hongliu, director of the physical and chemical office of Suzhou City Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, said that the risk monitoring mainly focused on the copper alloy faucets and stainless steel faucets used by residents daily, and focused on the problem of lead and chromium precipitation in faucets that consumers are most concerned about. monitor.

The new national standard stipulates that the amount of lead precipitation in faucets is not more than 5μg/l, but among 53 faucets claiming copper alloys, 11 batches of lead exceed the standard, exceeding 20% ​​of the total. “The main reason is that most of the production companies choose to process copper, cast copper alloys, and even use recycled brass such as key copper, car water tank copper, etc.” Ding Hongliu reminded that the amount of lead precipitation refers to the 16 hours of contact between water and the inner wall of the faucet The amount of precipitation, so the water left in the faucet for a long time is discharged during use, which can effectively reduce the safety risk.

The new national standard also stipulates that the amount of chromium precipitation is not more than 10.0μg/l, but in the test, there are still two batches of faucets that exceed the standard. There are two reasons for excessive chromium precipitation. One is the residual precipitation of chromium in the welding seam and the surface coating, and the other is that the faucet itself contains chromium, which is precipitated during immersion.

However, the current quality supervision department has detected problems with these products, but it cannot impose penalties on the company. Ding Hongliu introduced that starting next month, as long as the faucet whose production date is after December 1st is detected to exceed the standard, it can be punished. Will stainless steel rust?

In this test, one batch of stainless steel faucets actually showed signs of large areas of corrosion after the test. According to Wang Xiaopeng, an inspector of the Furniture and Decoration Inspection Office of Suzhou Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, if the oxide film on the surface of the stainless steel faucet is not treated well, corrosion will occur.

Stainless steel may be corroded. What about the situation of copper alloy faucets? Test results show that 47.2% of 53 batches of copper alloy faucets fail to meet the requirements. There are 25 batches, which is even more worrying.

Zinc alloy pretends to be copper alloy

In the new national standard to be implemented, it is clearly stipulated that zinc alloy materials should not be used in the parts of the tap that directly contact water. However, during the inspection, experts discovered that there is still a phenomenon of using zinc alloy faucets to pretend to be copper alloy faucets in the market. Among the 53 batches of faucets claimed to be copper alloys, 9 batches were counterfeit with zinc alloys.

The test results show that almost all the problematic taps this time are concentrated below 300 yuan. At present, a ton of pure copper costs more than 68,000 yuan, and a tap uses about 500g of copper. The cost of copper is almost 34 yuan, and the manufacturing cost will not be less than 100 yuan. Therefore, there are big problems in the quality of the surface coating and the precipitation of lead with the 30 to 40 yuan faucet on the market.
